At The Grotte Choranches
Randy Martin
We went to the amazing Grottes Choranches (grotto Choranches) about 27 kilometers from Villard de Lans. The picture is looking back at the "soda straw" room. Some of the soda straws (calcium deposits dropped from dripping water from the ceiling) are over three meters (10 ft) long.
When you consider that the soda straws only grow 2 cm/century, this soda straw has been growing for about 15,000 years!!
It was a beautiful 82 degrees F and 50 degrees F inside the grotto. I've got some really great photos that I'll post when I get internet access (I'm posting this from my iPhone.
I'll blog more tomorrow. Until then, may your wine glass never be empty…
